This Looks Like a Job For…

I want to have a quick discussion about catch phrases. I want one. Well two actually.

“So that got me thinking… (fill in the blank)”   and   “therein lies the problem”

I don’t want to be clever, catchy or memorable. I’m not loving it and it certainly isn’t finger lickin’ good (Speaking of which- I can’t get my dog to quite licking her paw). I just want to be lazy.

Since becoming a writer (did you catch my fake pretentious tone there?) I find I typically think in two trains of thought- non sequiturs (to the untrained eye) and the examined life (specifically mine).

And therein lies the problem. Because I tend to meander down these paths when I write, it’s hard to think of solid transitions to help ‘land the plane’ as my mother says. I worry about becoming too repetitive in my writing.

“Oh there she goes again,” you say rolling your eyes,” writing about processing personal problems.” Or, “What is she even talking about? Oh, she’s thinking again.”

Being repetitious in your word choice is lazy. Unfortunately I have never been good at transitions. So that got me thinking- maybe I could get away with it if I made it into a catchphrase. Superheroes (and villains for that matter) have them. Why can’t it?

And just like that, I have written myself a golden ticket, a get out of grammar jail free card for life. I wonder if I should try to trademark these two phrases.

I think Paris Hilton got the trademark on, “That’s hot” to help sell clothes and alcohol. (Oh wait- do I owe her money now!?) Maybe this should be the title of my book!

I’m Kaytlyn

I’ve been a writer my whole life, but it took me 39 years to figure it out. Join me as I make up for lost time, cranking out my brand of creative nonfiction- mostly short, personal essays and other piffle. I hope you like reading it as much as I like writing it. Let me know in the comments, unless you don’t like it- then keep it to yourself. I’m fragile.

Let’s connect…

Except I don’t do socials. Maybe you should try my beeper.
