Welcome to the second installment of “You Might Love Your Husband If… “
Today’s wilding endearing prompt: You might love your husband if he performs first aid on a turtle. I know you are swooning already. I know I am.
You see, my husband is a horticulturalist and uses dangerous outdoor equipment daily. So far he still has all of his digits (knock on wood), but one day a box turtle was not so lucky. Being the kind, brave, loyal and true Eagle Scout that he is, did he panic? No. Well maybe… I don’t know. I wasn’t there.
But he did act.
He went to his truck, retrieved his first aid kit, and cleaned and dressed the wound (read nick). The procedure finished with the application of a band-aid, and like God on the 6th day, he called it good. Refreshed, the brave little turtle carried on, ready to explore fresh new worlds.
Who knows where that turtle is now. He might have become a balladeer, the Bob Dylan of the turtle set, regaling other terrapins with his stories on the road. He might have become a cautionary tale mother tortoises use to scare their children to behave. “Your father’s cousin Myrtle had a friend whose son got too close to a weed eater and now his whole body is held together by a single band aid.” Or maybe nothing happened- he just continued to live his quiet little turtle life. Or died. That’s possible too.
The point is, my husband ministered to this little thing. For good or ill, he did his best to ease suffering, and I think that is just about the sweetest thing in the world. This calls for a merit badge.
